What are some other legal ways an accountant can help you save on taxes? I go over it in depth throughout the course of this really cool episode.

5 Minutes

Small Business Owners

Small businesses are the number one employer in this country. I know it, which is one of the reasons I find it so cool to work with you. The United States government does too, which is why they have provided a number of ways to help your company’s finances and maximize your revenue. Unfortunately, because of the way the US system is set up politically and historically, you probably either need to become an accountant or hire an accountant to help you navigate them.

Rich And Powerful

You may have heard that the rich pay much less in taxes than you and me. I talk a little bit more about it on the podcast, but if you’re a small business owner, that’s what you want to be doing. So how do the rich and powerful do it? They hire teams of accountants like me, as well as tax lawyers to help them navigate their taxes. Sometimes these clients can have really complex taxes due to travel and family that can require us to be able to file for multiple people at once in all 50 states. That means there is a lot of burnout.

Accountants Like Me

A growing number of accountants like me have moved away from working with those big complicated clients to offer better, more personal services to a small number of select clients. I have a specific number of clients I know I can handle, and I stick to those clients. Think of it as a concierge service for your business finances.

The Biggest Return?

If you’re going to hire an accountant to help you with your taxes, and you absolutely should if you can afford it, you need to be aware of a common misconception. The goal of a good accountant is not to get you the biggest return or refund possible. The goal of an accountant is to make sure you pay as little in taxes as possible. If you receive an unusually large tax return, you might have found a great accountant. Or, your accountant may be doing something illegal. Be sure to check that your accountant is licensed, and if their work seems too good to be true, make sure to check it.
